Do not ignore the call to listen “Listen to us parents!”

By Lisa Wilmore

Dear Hearts,

I great you in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! We are blessed to have Him as our eternal, endless and everlasting Savior. Thank You, Jesus!

Most recently, the Monroe Free Press printed an article by the district elected officials petitioning to parents and others to come to various meetings and listen to information pertaining to the bills that had been passed by the “Legislature Chambers that will impact the community, teens, young adults and other constituents”. The elected officials’ desire to meet with parents and others are both admirable and noteworthy. In fact, this authentic petitioning of parents and others truly reveal their concern and desire to help educate our communities. It is incumbent upon those who are church leaders, parents, and others learn as much as possible in order to be able to help our children throughout our communities.

As I read the article “Listen to Us” in the aforementioned publication, the first thing that came to my heart and mind was that God has given us instructions through His Word on how to live and be blessed. But there are those who will not listen or adhere to His commands. In addition, I thought about the prophets from Old Testament Scripture who pleaded with the people of God to turn from their sinful ways. The people did not listen to their advice. Although the information was available and authentic, the people ignored God’s wisdom and continued “business as usual.” Because they ignored “the call” to LISTEN and adhere, they found themselves in a place that could have been avoided. Will this be our communities? Ignoring the call to Listen?

Most importantly, our parents and communities cannot afford to ignore information that is readily available and presented in a manner that will help and/or benefit our children. Therefore, we must take advantage of this opportunity to educate ourselves so that we will be able to assist others, if and when the time presents itself.

As a point of reference, the Monroe Free Press shared an example of one of the bills that passed. Such as…“SB3 passed. This bill means that a 17-year-old who commits a non-violent crime or violent crime, will be tried as an adult. If they are sentenced to jail, they will go to an adult prison facility….” (Monroe Free Press Opinions, 6). As a result, the elected officials’ plea is “Listen to us parents!” It is crucial that we listen and adhere to wise council which only God can give.

Also, the Monroe Free Press noted that meetings will be held by the elected officials to inform and educate interested parties. Please check Facebook, radio stations, and newspapers for dates and times.

My pray is that we will adhere to His call to listen and act accordingly.

Jesus Saves!
