Deputy charged with third degree rape

  On Monday, a Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputy was booked and charged with third-degree rape. Bradley Smith, 38 of Calhoun, was immediately terminated as a deputy on arrest.
According to reports, an encounter between Smith and a 17-year-old female at his friend’s home led to the charge. As of Tuesday, bond for Smith was not set.
What is third-degree rape?
According to the Louisiana statute, third-degree rape is a “rape committed when the anal, oral or vaginal sexual intercourse is deemed to be without the lawful consent of a victim.”
