After being accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend with a crowbar in 2019, a Monroe man was convicted guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder. On Halloween Day, he’ll be sentenced.
Officers from the Monroe Police Department were called to the Aurora Trailer Park on Desiard Street at 6:19 p.m. on December 14, 2019, in regards to a female victim being assaulted with a crowbar. When officers arrived, they discovered that the female victim was leaving her home, and her ex-boyfriend, Anthony L. Willis, approached her from behind and began repeatedly striking her with a crowbar to the back of her head, back, and lower limbs.
Willis then walked away from the victim, who managed to rise up and struggle to walk to a neighbor’s house, according to court filings. According to witnesses, the victim eventually fell near her vehicle, and Willis attacked her again.
During the incident, the victim managed to use her car horn to scare Willis away from the location. Willis ran away, and the victim was discovered with swelling in her head and face.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, and officials secured an arrest order for Willis. He was arrested and charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery a few days later.
After a trial, the jury convicted Willis of Attempting Second-Degree Murder.
Willis is due to be sentenced on October 31, 2023, according to officials.
