Critics of BESE school opening plan say Blacks, the poor, face most risk

The board that makes policies for all state schools unanimously adopted minimum standards to re-open schools in August. The action ignored the concerns of education advocates that re-opening schools too soon exposes minority teachers and students to illness and death in pursuit of profits.

The standards in the approved plan are projected to minimize the risk of lawsuits but will not guarantee the elimination of Corona Virus risk for students and educators.

The plan spells out guidelines that will be used in Louisiana schools that include class sizes, bus limits, social distancing, and other particulars.

Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley offered the plan.
