Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council share the following weekly Census response rate update and explain the importance of completing the 2020 Census survey.
It is very important that Monroe residents complete the 2020 U.S. Census Survey. Official population numbers will be used to decide how hundreds of billions of federal dollars will be allocated across the country during the next decade. These dollars are used for education, highways, roads, water, sewer and drainage projects, law enforcement, fire protection, senior citizen, veteran and homeless services, Medicare/Medicaid and so much more.
The census is the only way these populations numbers will be gathered. Once the census survey period is over, our official numbers will be used to determine funding allocations for the next ten-years. Being undercounted means being underfunded. That is why everyone needs to complete the census survey. We want to #GetTheCount right so local municipalities, school districts, and agencies can receive proper federal funding.
