Sen. Cleo Fields, at 62, has announced his candidacy for Congress in the newly redrawn 6th Congressional District. This move comes nearly three decades after Fields, at the young age of 33, captured the imagination of African-Americans in the state by becoming the Democratic nominee for Governor of Louisiana in 1995.
