Brown, Ellis, Louis would bring change if elected Mayor

On Saturday, voters in Monroe will decide the direction of the city for the next four years. Old methods, approaches, and concepts are giving way to the future. All of the mayoral candidates are fine men and women; however, we recommend these as candidates most likely to bring new ideas and direction to the city. Either one of them would pave the way for a new direction for our city.

L. Marie Brown #186

We believe Marie Brown has a proven track record of empathy for the poor and less fortunate of our city. Before running for Mayor, she religiously attended council meetings and advocated on behalf of the poor and elderly.

If elected, we believe Mrs. Brown will promote the entire city’s growth, with a particular concern for how city actions will impact the poor and the elderly.

We have seen her protest unfair increases in bus fares and water rates and beg the city to pay attention to South Monroe. We have also seen her promote programs for the city’s overall growth with the same passion.

We believe she has a “Keep it real” attitude represents the compassion that the poor, the elderly, and the forgotten deserve; it will be a needed change of direction.

Friday Ellis #187

We believe Friday Ellis represents the new millennial generation’s view of the world, free of labels and prejudices that have divided our community for years.

As a citizen, he has involved himself in community service activities for years, reaching out to the needy and less fortunate. Most recently, we saw this spirit when he and friends spent several weeks helping Southside residents clear fallen trees after the spring tornado. We saw him providing tarps, covering rooftops, and arranging for food trucks to feed residents, including patronage of several black restaurants to provide meals for volunteers.

We saw him moving from house to house, knocking on doors, to bring Southside storm victims to safety, and then return to help them with personal assistance.

An Independent, small businessman, we believe he is positioned to create an atmosphere that will help bring the racially divided segments of our community together so we can focus on peace and prosperity for all.
It’s the kind of change of attitude and spirit the future demands.

Fredrick Louis #188

We believe Fredrick Louis would make a fine mayor. His radiant personality and sincere spirit are characteristics that attract and motivate persons from all walks of life. As an educator, he has given countless hours of volunteer time to help children and respond to the needs of the poor.

We have also seen the strength of his determination to help bring about change. In the last few months, although nine members of his family tested positive for COVID, including himself, he continued his quest. To bury both parents and a brother and help six other family members survive this crisis and still desire to help our city is admirable. It’s a quality that few possess.

He is a scholar and a gentleman, polite, courteous, and thoughtful. He represents the kind of change that would bring our best minds to the table and point us in a different direction.
