Be exceptionalin 2026

By Rusty Potter

As we step into 2026, the temptation is to treat the new year like every other – make a few resolutions, start strong, and hope for the best. But hope without intention rarely produces transformation. This year calls for something more. It calls for a decision to be exceptional.

Dr. Benjamin E. Mays once said, “Whatever you do, strive to do it so well that no man living, no man dead, and no man yet to be born could do it any better.” That quote is more than inspiration – it is a standard. It challenges us to approach our work, our relationships, and our responsibilities with excellence that leaves a lasting mark.

Exceptional people don’t wait for perfect conditions. They create their own momentum where others see obstacles. They understand that greatness is not reserved for the gifted few but is available to anyone willing to commit to self-growth, discipline, and purpose. Being exceptional in 2026 is not about doing extraordinary things once in a while; it’s about doing ordinary things with extraordinary consistency.
Exceptional people show up early – especially when it’s uncomfortable. They prepare when others procrastinate, push when others pause, and persevere when others quit. While average minds ask, “What’s required?” exceptional minds ask, “What’s possible?” They don’t measure success by comparison but by contribution.

In a world overflowing with excuses, exceptional people choose responsibility. They own their mistakes, learn from their failure, and refuse to let setbacks define them. Instead of saying, “That’s just how I am,” they say, “That’s who I was, but I’m growing.” Growth becomes their daily assignment.

Being exceptional in 2026 also means lifting others as you climb. True success is never selfish. Exceptional people understand that influence is a responsibility, not a privilege. They encourage when it’s easier to criticize, mentor when it’s easier to compete, and serve when it’s easier to sit on the sidelines. Communities change when people decide to lead by example.

Be exceptional in your attitude. Gratitude sharpens perspective. Optimism fuels endurance. When challenges come – and they will – choose faith over stress.

Be exceptional in your integrity. Do what’s right even when no one is watching. Character is revealed in private long before it is rewarded in public.

As 2026 unfolds, don’t just exist – impact. Don’t just make a living – make a difference. History is shaped by people who decide to rise above average. Choose to be exceptional.
