Blessings from God above and grace from our Lord and Savior Jesus, the anointed One. It is good to know that we can delight in our eternal, everlasting and endless Savior.
As we ponder today’s message, “An ungrateful heart reveals the character of an individual”, think about the time that you did something for someone, and it was either too short or too tall; too little or not enough. Understand this, your character reveals the status of your heart. An ungrateful heart is not a heart that comes from God. Interestingly, this is a heart that is the opposite of who God desires for His children.
The words “thank you” is a phenomenal phrase; however, the negative actions that preceded the “thank you” truly reveals the condition of the heart. When a thankful heart is thankful, it is revealed in the character of that person. In like manner, when an unthankful heart is revealed, it is revealed in their character, also.
Paul expressed to us in God’s Holy Bible that this would happen. He penned, “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people” (2 Tim. 3:1-6 NIV).
The aforementioned attributes are definitely those that exude a form of godliness. One writer commented that going to church and even using Christian cliches can make a person look good, but if the inner attitudes of belief, love, and worship are lacking, the outer appearance is meaningless (LASB, 1847). Paul advises us not to be misled by these types of people which are inclusive of those with an ungrateful heart.
Do you have a grateful heart? Have you truly thanked God for what He has done for you? God did it, but He did not have to. In a similar manner, when people do kind things for you the least you can do is thank them from a grateful heart.
Many years ago, May 7, 2011, during my tenure as a principal at one of the elementary schools in the Monroe City School District, one of my parents bought me a book titled JABEZ, by Thom Lemmon. In the book she expressed her gratitude to me for helping her child and other children reach their highest potential. She had a grateful heart which was revealed in her character.
