Supreme Court forces Jefferson to give suspect life sentence

Judge Larry Jefferson apologized for giving a man a life sentence; called it a miscarriage of justice prompted by the system’s desire to whip a black judge in line

It’s unusual that a judge will go to bat for a suspect he believes has been wrongfully convicted; usually once found guilty by a jury the case is over. However, 4th District Judge Larry Jefferson has made a career of correcting wrongs and battling the system.

Last week, the controversial judge had to bow to pressure from the Louisiana Supreme Court and sentence a wrongfully convicted man to life in prison, without the benefit of parole or probation.
