Hello, friends; this is Roderick. I will tell you more about what I learned at the National Civil Rights Museum tour of The Black-Tie Guys in Memphis, January 14–15. I will also touch on snow days, sports, games, and other fun things; now, let’s begin.
The Black-Tie Guys in Memphis
The Black Tie Guys, of which I am a member, traveled to Memphis on January 14–15, even though it was cold and snowy. After the tour, we stayed in the Embassy Suites hotel, which had big rooms

and a glass elevator. We learned many things that we had not covered yet, such as avoiding any violence and that blacks and whites marched with Martin Luther King Jr. In the museum, we sat on the bus right next to a statue of Rosa Parks. We also stood right next to the room in which Dr. King spent his last night. In the National Civil Rights Museum, we learned that many people fought in the Civil Rights Movement in many ways so we could have equal rights; Dr. King was just one of them.
Snow Days
We had lots of fun playing in the snow in Monroe. We built snowmen, and we had snowball fights. “With all the snow we had, we built snow castles and angels and played football in the snow. We enjoyed the snow while it lasted.
Top TV Shows for Kids
There are many TV shows for kids, such as Peppa Pig, Sponge Bob Square Pants, and Teen Titans Go. My favorite one is Teen Titans Go. It’s about superheroes, and it’s hilarious. It’s my favorite because it’s funny and fun to watch while eating popcorn.
Prince Baptized

A friend of mine, Prince Elijah Gipson was baptized Sunday at the Zion Spring Baptist Church. Many people came to be a part of his big moment. His pastor presented him with a certificate of baptism afterward. At our meeting, he told us that being baptized meant he believed in Jesus, and he is now a Christian.
MCAL League
The MCAL League just finished football, and now they are playing basketball. There are hundreds of kids playing in the MCAL League, headed by my cousin, Tyree Hollins. If you would like to join, you can reach him on Facebook. His Facebook name is Tyree Hollins.
Homework Is Important
Homework is important because it can help develop a sense of personal responsibility. Some kids dislike homework, and some teachers don’t like it either. Maybe that’s why they don’t grade it. However, it’s still important. If you need help with your homework, ask your mother to help you or get a tutor. The Black-Tie Guys offers private tutoring sessions for each member Tuesdays through Saturdays.
That’s It!
Well, that wraps it up for this week. This was my first time writing an article for the newspaper. This was a challenge. I will have a lot more to say next week. If you want to contact me, email me at theblacktieguys318@gmail.com. I’ll see you next week.
