Ahmed Kenyatta Wright, Sr., a prominent figure in the Monroe community, known to many as Coach “Kip”, passed away on October 29, 2023, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Born on January 24, 1973, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Allen Payne, Sr. and Jessie Wright, Ahmed was a beacon of strength, leadership, and spirituality.
A proud graduate of Ouachita High School, Ahmed’s passion for mentoring the youth was evident in his role as a coach in Little League football. Those fortunate enough to be under his guidance fondly remember his dedication and the life lessons he instilled in them both on and off the field.
Ahmed was a familiar face on the corner of Winnsboro Road and Berg Jones, where he could often be seen selling copies of the “Final Call” newspaper. His deep-rooted faith in Islam was an integral part of his identity.
Serving as the Student Captain of the Fruit of Islam of Muhammad’s Mosque #99 in Monroe, under Minister Verbon Muhammad, he was part of the elite disciplinary and security wing of the Nation of Islam.
The funeral service, scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Logtown Baptist Church, 1910 Addie Street, is expected to be graced by distinguished members of the Nation of Islam, including Regional Captain of the Fruit of Islam, Stephen Muhammad, and Regional Minister Abdul Hakeem Muhammad, both of Houston. Minister Abdul Muhammad is expected to give reflections on Ahmed’s life and contributions.
The community is also welcome to join in paying respects during the visitation on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at McFarland Funeral Companies, 1901 Burg Jones Lane, Monroe, LA 71202.
For those unable to attend in person, the funeral service will be broadcast via Facebook Live, ensuring that Ahmed’s life is celebrated and remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
