Our City……….Our Community

By Marie Brown

As we come to the end of Black History Month, the parades, activities, events, and others will stop. The floats, parties, church, and school programs were enjoyed by all.

The community should now declare the next 10 months of 2025 to celebrate the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson and aimed to overcome legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented Blacks from exercising their right to vote as guaranteed under the 15th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Ralph Abernathy, along with other civil rights leaders, were on hand to witness this game-changing moment in History signing into law on August 6, 1965.

Due to the changes occurring, it’s time to wake up and get busy. Voter Registration and Education is critical. The voting trends of Black voters throughout the country, state, and local levels are trending downward. It is high time to parade to the polls, march door to door, and float a ton of information to residents, young and old, about what is at stake…After all…We want to continue To Love where we Live…and Live where we Love.
