Our City Our Community

By Marie Brown

There is an adage that says April Showers bring May flowers.  We certainly see beautiful flowers blooming throughout our community… is a sight for sore eyes.  However, grass is growing at a high rate.  I want to take this opportunity to thank those who are responsible for showing pride in maintaining their properties.  I encourage property owners who are not, including personal and commercial, to sharpen those blades and start the mowing process.  We commend the City of Monroe and DOTD for starting to mow the main thoroughfares throughout our city.  Motorists travelling through our community will get a good impression when they see pride of ownership.

The challenges we have throughout neighborhoods are a multitude of vacant lots and dilapidated houses are not a priority to some property owners.  Those of us who live in South Monroe see this daily.  In addition to decreasing property values at a speedy rate, the opportunity for development and growth is minimal.  I am optimistic that efforts to improve our community will not fall on deaf ears, and we will continue to “Live where we Love… and Love where we Live.”
