Obituary for Margaret Adams Birden

Margaret Adams Birden, 74 of Oakley, California died December 30, 2019. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Olive Branch Baptist Church, 110 Short Jackson St., West Monroe, LA. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. Friday, January 17, 2020, at Millers’ Funeral Home in Monroe, LA. Burial will be at Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe, LA under the direction of Millers’ Funeral Home.

Margaret was born October 18, 1945, to the union of Robert Lee and Margie Williams Adams. She was the firstborn of eight children. She is preceded in death by her father Robert Lee Adams, Sr. and three brothers: Robert Lee Adams, Jr., Howard Kenneth Adams and Jacob Adams. Margaret received Christ at an early age and was baptized at Olive Branch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. S. L. V. Johnson.

Margaret attended and graduated from Boley School in West Monroe, LA. She received two undergraduate degrees from Laney College and California State University (Hayward). She retired as a health assistant for the Oakland Unified School District with 30+ years of dedication at Lockwood Elementary School.

Margaret leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 34 years, James Birden, a loving mother, Margie Adams, eight brothers: Ernest, of West Monroe, William Don, Willie, Phillip, Larry, Calvin, Kenneth of Monroe and Harry of San Antonio, Texas. Six sisters: Sheila, Brenda, Charlene, Lucille, Joann, of Monroe and Mary of Oakland, CA; two uncles Thomas and Ethan, two aunts, Hattie and Clara Bell, two brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
