Multi-Million dollar teacher suit, nearing end; could cost city schools “many, many” millions

A suit that could mean millions of dollars in back payments to hundreds of Monroe City School teachers may be on the brink of finally going to trial or settlement.

Nearly ten years ago, a handful of Monroe city school teachers filed suit in the fourth district, saying the Monroe City Schools had illegally paid monies targeted for classroom teachers to ineligible employees, costing them millions of dollars.

Since the suit was filed in 2013 by Eddie Clark and Associates and Attorney Ross Downs, the city school board has dragged out the complaint. Thousands of pages of depositions, court filings, and letters have been written in the interim, but according to the attorneys…
