Carday Marshall, Sr., has been elected to the District 4 seat on the Monroe City Council.
Marshall won a run-off election in which he out polled retired football coach Jesse Smith 52 percent to 48 percent.
Marshall’s election completes the new city council which now has a mayor and three of its five city council members who are all under sixty years old.
All of the new faces in city government ran on platforms that called for changes and approaches that reflect a new generation. Other new members of the city’s government include: Friday Ellis, Mayor; Doug Harvey, district one; and Kema Dawson, district five.
Only nine percent of the voters in District four participated in the election. Marshall received a total of 294 votes and Smith received 267, half of which were cast in early voting.
