Locals among thousands at St. Louis Baptist Congress

Monroe area residents are among over 10,000 Baptists who are convening in St. Louis for the Christian Education Congress.

The Congress is the educational arm of the National Baptist Convention, USA one of the largest organizations of Baptist in the United States.

During the week messengers, including many from the local community, studied ways to bring the message of faith to their communities.

Several local church leaders serve on the staff or faculty of the Congress including Reverend Ike Byrd, of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Roosevelt Wright, Jr. of New Tabernacle Baptist Church; Rev. and Mrs. Chandler Hawkins served as praise leaders in late night services.

Also serving on the Children’s Department Staff was the Rev. Micheal Thompson of the Olive Branch Baptist Church.

The convention’s faculty asked prayers for the late Nellie Monroe of Monroe whose decades of work in the Congress was recognized among the convention’s faithful workers who died in the last year.
