Local Musicians plan farewell to Crystal Williams Saturday

Visitation will be held Friday, March 22, 2019, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Alice Mae Miller Chapel of Miller Funeral Home, from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. at Brownsville B. C. in Columbia, La. and from 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. a Musical Wake will be held at Greater New Antioch 301 Sherrouse Ave., Monroe La. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. will be the home going celebration at Greater New Antioch, 301 Sherrouse Ave., Monroe, La.

Her official obituary reads as follows:

Crystal Gayle Martin Williams was born July 6, 1960, in Monroe, Louisiana at E.A. Conway Memorial Hospital to the late Elijah and Gerthia Mae Jackson Martin.

Crystal entered into rest on Monday, March 11, 2019, at 10:45 a.m. at the Glenwood Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Norman Wade Williams and to this union one son was born, Kristopher Wade Williams.

At an early age, she accepted Christ at the Brownsville Baptist Church in Columbia, Louisiana under the leadership of Rev. C.H. Reed. She later united with the Covenant Worship Center, Columbia, Louisiana under the leadership of Pastor Robert and Rose Sheridan.

She graduated from Caldwell Parish High School. She attended Grambling State University and received her B.S. in Liberal Arts. At GSU, she participated in the following: GSU Symphonic, Jazz and Concert Band where she played clarinet and the baritone sax and the GSU Concert Choir and Voices of Faith.

She served as musician for many years in the surrounding areas: Evening Star Baptist Church, New Daughters of Zion Baptist Church, Seigle Community Baptist Church, Covenant Worship Center, Cuba Baptist Church, St. Luke Baptist Church, and St. James #2 Baptist Church.

She was a member of the Northeast La. Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America where she served as Sgt. at Arms. She also served as one of the musicians and songwriters. One of her greatest moments was when she submitted two of her songs to the National Convention of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. She also was a Gospel Artist who featured her Gospel Music Project “Entering In.”

She was preceded in death by her sister, Katie B. Scott, two brothers, Robert Martin, Charles Martin and one nephew, Robert Deshawn Martin.
She leaves to cherish her memories; A devoted son, Kristopher Wade Williams, West Monroe, LA; Four sisters, Katie Lee Williams (Henry), San Antonio, TX, Betty Jo Robinson (Melvin), Columbia, LA, Dexter Martin Moffett (Roy) and Marilyn Martin Gulley; nine nephews; Douglas Robinson, Charles Anthony Martin, Christopher Lee Allen, Craig Alexander Allen, Michael W. Gulley, Jr., Daniel (Cheryl) Scott, Donald Ray Williams, Steven D. Martin and Ronnie C. Martin; eight nieces; Constance D. Allen, Marla M. Gulley, Ladell Scott, Deborah( Tony) Thompson, Abra (Kent) Curry, Danetta (Roland) Fuller, Beverly (Roland) Blair and Iris E. Williams; one special great-niece, Kelsi Jade Taylor and a multitude of other great nieces, nephews, cousins and family and friends.
