Kids Korner with Julius Brown

Hey there, everyone! It’s your pal Julius Brown, and I’ve got some pretty cool and weird things to share with you this week. We’ll be talking about some surprising events that you might not have known about, Juneteenth, Father’s Day, and our awesome BTG member, Jordan Stewart.

First up, let’s dive into some weird things that have happened. Did you know that one time, a car was followed by 20,000 bees because the queen bee was inside? That’s crazy!

Another fun fact: when you sneeze, your heart rate actually changes. Most people think it stops for a second, but that’s not true. And here’s a scary one: there are diseases frozen inside glaciers all around the world, and with global warming, they might be released one day. Yikes!

Next, let’s talk about Juneteenth; the day is over but the celebration never ends.

This holiday is celebrated because of the freedom of slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863, which meant that all slaves were free. However, back then, there were no phones or mail trucks, so someone had to travel far to spread the news. It took two whole years for all the slaves to be free, and that’s why we celebrate Juneteenth—to remember when the last slaves were liberated.

Now, let’s not forget about Father’s Day, a great day for all fathers. This Sunday, many took time to show their dads some love. Did you know that Father’s Day isn’t always on the 19th? It’s actually celebrated on the third Sunday of June, which happens to be the 19th this year. Last year, it was on the 18th. There are so many reasons to appreciate your dad—they do a lot to support you!

Last but not least, I want to introduce you to our BTG member, Jordan Stewart. He was born on November 15, 2011, to Aeja Jackson and Darrell Stewart. Jordan goes to Ouachita Junior High and is in the 6th grade, just like me! He loves learning and always works hard in school. When he’s not studying, Jordan enjoys playing video games, soccer, and basketball.

Well, that’s all for now, folks! I hope you enjoyed learning about these weird and wonderful things with me. Remember to celebrate Juneteenth, show your dad some love on Father’s Day, and keep being awesome like Jordan!

Until next time, Julius Brown
