The Copeland family announces with deep sorrow the passing of their beloved family member, Billy Gene Copeland, at the age of 75. A cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Billy Gene departed this earthly life on July 29, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.
A service to honor and celebrate Billy Gene Copeland’s life will be held on Saturday at the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church in Monroe, Louisiana, at 11 a.m. The community is invited to join the family in paying their final respects and sharing in the remembrance of a life well-lived.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 26, 1947, Billy Gene was a man of deep faith and unwavering devotion to his family. He touched the lives of many through his warmth, kindness, and genuine concern for others.
Billy Gene was preceded in death by his loving parents and his devoted wife, Erma J. Copeland. As he embarks on his eternal journey, he leaves behind a vast family that he loved and cherished beyond measure.
His memory will forever be treasured by his fourteen children: Mary Danzie (Terence), Martina Butler (Michael), Danny Norman, Latisha Copeland, Atwood Copeland (Maggie), James Copeland, Allen Copeland, Derrick Copeland, Patrick Copeland, La’Keta Copeland, Ma’Keta Anding (Eric), Jo’Hanna Copeland, Pauline Copeland, and Charlie Copeland. Billy Gene also leaves behind a remarkable legacy through thirty-six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, who will carry his love and values in their hearts.
In addition to his immediate family, Billy Gene will be deeply missed by a host of other relatives and friends, whose lives he touched with his compassionate nature and radiant spirit.
Following the service, the Copeland family invites all well-wishers to join them in a fellowship gathering at Lifeline Church, located at 3504 US-165, Monroe, LA 71202. This will be a time of reflection, sharing stories, and offering comfort and support to one another as they navigate this time of loss.
