Final farewell to Mary Johnson

Mary Patricia Lewis Johnson, affectionately known as Mary Pat, was born January 27, 1942, to the union of the late Avery C Lewis and Lillie L Lewis. On April 17, 2025, she peacefully departed this life after a courageous battle with cancer.

On April 20, 1962, Mary Pat was united in marriage to Robert Johnson, and to this union a son Martin L Johnson was born.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert, her beloved son Martin, and her siblings: Michael, Avery, Pam, Robert, Jerome, and Martin.

Mary Pat graduated as a salutatorian from Little Flower High School in 1959. She pursued her passion for helping others by attending St Anthony’s School of Nursing in Rockford, Illinois where she graduated in 1962. Upon returning to Monroe, she began her nursing career at St Francis Medical Center. She later found her true calling in geriatric care at Lincoln Park Nursing Home. Retiring from Lincoln Park her heart for service remained strong. Mary Pat went on to work as a nurse in the Ouachita Parish School System and later at Supreme Home Health, before fully retiring.

Mary Pat was baptized into the faith at an early age at Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church, where she remained a devoted and faithful member throughout her life. She was a proud member of The Knights of Peter Calver Ladies Auxiliary Court #160, where she was a charter member of both the 3rd and 4th Degree – notably the last surviving charter member of the 3rd Degree. Mary Pat was also a diligent and unwavering member of the OMCAP board.

She leaves to cherish her memory a sister-in-law Marilyn Lewis and brother-in-law Joseph Johnson (Shauna). Granddaughter Quita Allen and two great grandchildren Deja and Zion. And a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and lifelong friends.

Mary Pat lived a life defined by faith and service. Her light touched many and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
