East Parkview Homeowners suit seeks to void MLK location vote

A suit challenging the city school board’s practice of pre-meeting signups as a violation of the open meeting law was set to be heard in 4th District Court Tuesday. However, procedural filings by the school board and the plaintiffs have caused the hearing to be delayed.

John Ethel Minnifield and Jesse Smith filed suit on behalf of homeowners of the East Parkview community who are worried that the construction of the new Martin Luther King Jr. High School in an area near Wossman will flood their homes.

Despite months of protests and negotiations, the school board ignored homeowners and decided to build the new school in the area known for flooding.
