Council delays bus fare increase vote, wants bare bones administrative costs

The Mayo Administration wants to raise bus fares, but the city council wants to be sure there is no other way. That was the reason given Tuesday night for the council’s decision to delay approval of a 50 percent fare increase and a new transfer fee.

    The city is trying to help plug a hole in its annual budget which projects a $4 million deficit by the end of the fiscal year in April of 2018. The 50 percent fare increases and reduction of some routes, plus a new .25 cent transfer fee would reduce the amount the city has to subsidize the department.
