Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Carroll Magnet High School in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held Friday, June 14, 2019, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Miller’s Funeral Home in Monroe, La., with the memorial service following immediately after from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and hosted by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Maurice Wilton Johnson, Sr., departed this life on June 2, 2019, at 1:30 a.m. at Avalon Place Skilled Care Facility. He was 76.
Maurice was the third of four children born to the late Frank Henry and the late Wilma Octavia on March 2, 1943, in Monroe, La. He was preceded in death by two brothers – Richard Zemry Johnson and Frank Harold Johnson. He accepted Christ into his life at a young age at Zion Traveler Baptist Church of Monroe, La.
He graduated from both Carroll High School and Grambling State University only to return to both schools as band director. Maurice also received his Masters from Northeast Louisiana University (presently known as ULM).
Maurice is survived by his four children: Anita LaTreece of Lafayette, LA., Sonya Lorraine of Monroe, LA., Angela Elaine of Tulsa, OK., and Maurice Wilton, II (Natalie) of Bossier City, LA.; four grandchildren: Jacqualine Renee, Whitney D’Nichole, James Maurice, and Maxwell Elijah Maurice; his sister, Jacqualine Elaine Coleman (Von); his niece, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
