Brown announces bid for city council, wants more than 3 minutes

L. Marie Brown has thrown her hat in the ring for the District 4 city council elections in the spring of 2024.

Mrs. Brown, who unsuccessfully ran for mayor in the 2020 election, has been an unapologetic advocate for the poor mostly before the Monroe City Council and Monroe City School Board for many years.

Her name is well known in African-American households, with most referring to her as just “Marie.”

As a community activist, Brown has often clashed with those in power, both black and white.

She made her announcement at the conclusion of the Juneteenth parade and family day on Saturday. Mrs. Brown started the local parade 12 years ago before it was a state or federal holiday.
