Black worker resigns of “Knee-Grow” jokes at Parish School Board

Bruce Taylor, an IT specialist with five years of service at the Ouachita Parish School Board, has resigned from his position, citing a hostile work environment created by his superiors and a co-worker who engaged in racially tinged stereotype jokes. Taylor’s decision to leave the school district voluntarily is rooted in his fear of retaliation for reporting the offensive behavior. However, his admitted participation in racial jesting may be hampering his complaint.

Taylor, the only Black employee in the IT department, revealed that he often faced derogatory comments and jokes from his colleagues, including being referred to as the department’s “Token” Negro employee. He cited an incident where his coordinator made a jesting comment, saying he had a “can gun” aimed at “Afri-cans,” Mexi-cans,” and Jamai-cans.”
