Dramatic new details have emerged following the capture of three inmates who escaped from the Swanson Center for Youth on Saturday morning, leading Monroe Police officers to a vacant home where all three fugitives were apprehended—including two who attempted to hide inside an attic.
According to affidavits from the Monroe Police Department, officers tracked the runaways on Saturday evening, July 11, 2026, to a vacant residence located at 216 Peach Street in Monroe.
When officers arrived at the home shortly after 6:30 p.m., they immediately closed in on the property. The first escapee, 20-year-old Jamyrione Carter of Rapides Parish, was swiftly taken into custody by officers outside the residence before he could evade capture.
The remaining two fugitives, identified as 19-year-old Lan’den Logan of Calcasieu Parish and 18-year-old Micklo Mendez of Lafourche Parish, breached the home and scrambled into the attic space to hide.
Responding officer Andrew Stadius noted that multiple direct verbal orders were given for Mendez to exit the vacant house. Moments later, officers reported hearing a “loud crash” from inside the residence as someone fell from the attic structure.
Following additional commands, Mendez complied and exited the residence, where he was arrested at 6:41 p.m. Police records reveal Mendez has a prior criminal history involving manslaughter and escape.
Meanwhile, Logan remained barricaded in the attic space, refusing repeated orders to surrender. To safely extract him from the ceiling structure, authorities were forced to deploy “less-lethal weapons.” Logan was successfully removed from the attic and taken into custody at 7:07 p.m. He has a prior criminal history of second-degree battery.
Property owners confirmed to police that the Peach Street residence was vacant and that none of the individuals had permission to be on the property.
All three individuals have been returned to secure custody. Both Logan and Mendez face additional local charges of Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling, with Logan facing an extra charge of Resisting an Officer. Following the operation, the individuals were booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center (OCC).
