Who is the Great Deliverer? Jesus, Jesus

By Lisa Wilmore

Lord, encourage our hearts that we may truly understand the authenticity of Your deliverance of us out of bondage. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

My Dear Friends,

What has you bound? What is the one thing that has you in bondage where you can not sleep at night or even journey through the day without giving it attention? What are you in need of deliverance? Perhaps, you need deliverance from people, sickness, an addiction, etc., but you do not see a “light at the end of the tunnel”. May I suggest to you that there is hope in Jesus, only if you trust Him to deliver you out of your condition.
Trusting God to deliver you out of bondage simply means that whatever He tells you to do, you must do. In the book of Exodus, noted in the Holy Bible, the children of Israel had to trust God in every aspect of their lives when He sent Moses as His spokesperson to free them from bondage (slavery). Whatever God told Moses to instruct them to do, they had to do it, if they wanted to be delivered. In like manner, if we want the deliverance, we must obey God’s voice. In other words, we must obey God’s Word.
Before Jesus came to save us from our sins, we were all slaves to sin. In fact, there are individuals who are still bound to sin and refuse to be released from sin’s stronghold. God has sent the world the greatest gift, the Great Deliverer, Jesus Christ; however, there are those persons who will not accept Him as their Savior. This is concerning and disappointing because the message people send when they do not accept Him is that they want to continue to be a slave to sin.
As a point of reference, John recorded one of Jesus’ teachable moments as he spoke about God’s true children. He shared with those who believed on Him that if they continued in His Word, then they were His disciples, indeed. He declared, “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).
Interestingly, the people wanted to understand this freedom because they had never been in bondage to any man. “What do you mean, set free?” Just like God delivered and set the Israelites free from their bondage of slavery by the Egyptians, He sets us free from sin by what He did for us on the cross, only if we accept and believe.
Question: Who is the Great Deliverer? Answer: Jesus who frees us from continued slavery of sin. One writer commented that this does not give us the freedom to sin but to follow God. So, if you are in search of deliverance, accept and believe in God’s Son, Jesus.
