My Dear Friends,
We live in a world where mornings rapidly pass, and nights show up before we get comfortable with the day. It is worth noting that we do not have a minute to waste. Time is vastly “slipping through the cracks”, and it should matter what we do with God’s precious gift, Jesus Christ.
Undoubtably, in this season of time, perhaps, what matters most to a senior girl in high school is the perfect dress for her prom; for an elderly person, a visit from family members and friends; for a mother, a wayward child returns home; for a father and husband, the fulfillment of being able to support his family financially; for a politician, to be able to secure a seat at the table for reasons to help their communities, etc.
Particularly, there are things that matter to us that will cause undue stress. Certain things that matter to us are of great importance at the time, which may serve as earthly accomplishments or self-gratifying achievements. So, the question to ponder in this message is “What matters most to you?
As a point of reference, my niece, who is a senior in high school, had to decide what mattered most to her-buying a $1200 dress for her prom in which she would wear only one time or budget for a less expensive dress. I asked her what really mattered most. Looking “expensive” for one night or investing her money for a lifetime. Her task was to find a $300.00 dress. She was to place the remainder of her funds in a certificate of Deposit (CD) where she could have a return on her deposited investment. Believe it or not, my 18-year-old niece chose the three-hundred-dollar challenge. She employed her aunt, who is a seamstress, to design and assemble her dress. At most, she will spend approximately $300. The remaining funds will be deposited into a bank with a secure interest-bearing return. So, what mattered to her was the prom and a nice dress; however, the interest that she would incur on her remaining balance mattered most. Wise choice!
What matters most to you? Living in the moment and not giving God your time, talents, and tithes? When we are presented with choices that are in opposition of God’s will for our lives, our message to Him is the world’s way matters most to us. Certainly, this disappoints God.
What matters most to you? The things of the world which offers no perpetual return; or the things of God which has an ETERNAL return? The choice is yours!
Thank God that we mattered most to Him. He sent His Son Jesus to save us. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 KJV).
Jesus Saves!
