This week in 2000, The family of Jeremy Burton and about 50 others staged a protest in front of city hall claiming the police murdered Burton and then claimed that he shot himself in the head twice while being bitten over 100 times by police dogs. Initially, a Monroe officer said he shot Burton, soon after the department changed the story.No one was ever charged in Burton’s death.
