This week in 2004 the Monroe City School Board fired Superintendent George Cannon when a federal investigation revealed that he signed contracts with a New York company to help bolster its profits with a fake $2.5 million contract from the Monroe City Schools. Cannon’s wife was reportedly a board member of the New York company.
