Strong support for retaining Mrs. Sonya Giles Fields as Principal

Dear Editor,

We are writing to express our united and sincere support for retaining Mrs. Sonya Jiles- Fields as Principal of Roy Neal Shelling Elementary School. Her leadership has had a profoundly positive impact on the students, staff, and the wider community. She has proven to be a tremendous asset to the school, consistently inspiring a sense of pride and excellence among students and staff alike.

Under Mrs. Fields’ leadership, school morale has been exceptionally high. Her dedication goes far beyond what is expected—standing outside in the cold, rain, snow, or heat to welcome and protect students and parents. She demonstrates daily what it means to be a committed, vigilant, and compassionate leader.

Mrs. Fields is a protector, always alert to potential issues, and quick to take appropriate action. She communicates openly with both police and parents during emergencies, creating a safe and transparent environment. Her wisdom and understanding are especially evident when dealing with concerned or upset parents. She listens, explains, and brings calm to difficult situations.

As the Bible says in Romans 13:7, “Give honor to whom honor is due.” Today, we give honor to Mrs. Fields for her unwavering dedication, her courage, and her heart for our children. She has begun a meaningful and beautiful transformation at Shelling Elementary, and it is our fervent hope and prayer that she will be allowed to continue this important work.

We live in a time when true leadership is rare. Not everyone is called to lead, but Mrs. Fields clearly is. We believe her continued leadership is vital not just for the school, but for the entire community. We urge you to reconsider any decision to replace her. The work she has started deserves the chance to flourish.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Shirley Burks & Patricia Johnson
