Services set Saturday for legendary school cook, Willie Mae Jackson

Willie Mae Jackson Coleman departed this life to be present with the Lord on Saturday, May 25th, at the age of 81.

A longtime resident of the Booker T. Community in Monroe since 1965, Mrs. Jackson was a beloved member of her community and church.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31st, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home.

Her Homegoing Celebration will take place on Saturday, June 1st, at 11:00 AM at Faith Harvest Baptist Church, 3701 Nutland Road, Monroe, Louisiana.

Willie Mae Jackson Coleman was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 25th, 2024. She was 81 years old. A cherished resident of the Booker T. Community in Monroe since 1965, Willie Mae touched many lives with her kindness, faith, and culinary talents.

Born and raised with a heart full of love and dedication, Willie Mae became the devoted mother of James Earl Jackson, Sr., the late Rev. Eddie Ray Jackson, and Michael Dewayne Jackson. Her unwavering faith led her to become a faithful member of Zion Spring Missionary Baptist Church from 1970 until her passing.

Willie Mae was known far and wide for her exceptional cooking skills. She served the community with her culinary talents, working diligently for 40 years in the cafeteria at Lincoln Elementary School, now Roy Shelling Elementary School. She retired on December 31, 2021, at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.

Throughout her life, Willie Mae was truly used by God to touch countless individuals with the kindness of Christ and to bless innumerable people with genuine expressions of the love of Jesus. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Willie Mae’s memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
