Funeral services will be held Saturday for a well-known churchwoman.
Services for Mrs. Sadie Cornelius, 92, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cornelius was well known in the religious community, having spent over 80 years of her life in active service.
Her official obituary reads:
Sadie Cornelius was born to the union of Willie Cornelius and Pearlie Mims in 1926 in Monroe, LA. She departed this life on July 20, 2019, at Ouachita Healthcare Center.
She graduated from Monroe Colored High School and Robinson Business College. She also studied at Northeast University where she was employed as a clerical worker for many years until her retirement.
She accepted Christ and was Baptized at the Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of the Dr. Prince Cornelius Keal.
She loved and reared her only child, Patricia, and opened her arms to serve as a mother to all that surrounded her. She dedicated her life to serving others through her dedication to the ministries of her church.
Sadie impacted all individuals by her words of wisdom and her unselfish giving. She had compassion for all youth and demanded excellence from them all.
At Tabernacle, she served in many capacities over the years including, Pastor’s Assistant, President of the Pastor’s Aide Club, Youth Leader, Homecoming Chairperson, Choir Librarian, Secretarial Assistant, Youth Encampment Sponsor, Drama Assistant, Church Clerk, Church Membership Secretary, Children’s Church Coordinator, Announcement Reader, and Volunteer Greeter at Excellence Academy.
She proudly responded to the nickname of “The Boss” because of her take-charge spirit and attention to detail when she executed church activities.
She was a retired Administrative Assistant at ULM.
Preceding her in death were, her mother, Pearlie Cornelius; father, Willie Cornelius, Howard (brother), Berta (sister), Dub (brother),and Charles (brother).
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Matthews; one grandson Andrew Matthews; Sandra Cornelius (niece), Steven Cornelius (nephew) and a host church members and friends.
Her life will live in the hearts and memories of all that she touched.
