Services set for Ethel Johnson Saturday at Mt. Zion

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29th for a local healthcare worker who died last week.

Services for Ethel Johnson will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Monroe. Mrs. Johnson died on May 16. She was employed as a health care worker at St. Joseph Nursing home for many years.

Services are being handled by McFarland Funeral Home.

Her official obituary reads as follows:

“Ethel Johnson was born to the late Harry Harris, Sr., and Roberta Harris in Gilbert, Louisiana. She was married to the late Samuel Johnson.

She was baptized at an early age, under the leadership of Reverend John Tellis at the Old Macedonia Baptist Church in Gilbert, Louisiana.

Ethel departed this life Sunday, May 16, 2021. She worked in the school system for a number of years and then she worked at St. Joseph Home as a Health Care worker.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Harry, Sr., and Roberta Harris, and her siblings, Mary Chester, Louise Harris Harris, Betty Willrich, Evangelist Juanita Heckard, Eddie Goodrum, Rev. Harry Harris, Jr., and Rev. Charles Harris, Sr.

Ethel leaves to cherish her memories: three children, LeRoy Charles Cameron, Jr. (Diane), Patricia Spillman, and Ethel Cameron; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Billy Goodrum, Willie Harris (Earline), Freddie Goodrum (Shawanna), James Harris (Sandra), Floyd Harris (Janice), John McCarthy (Bertha), and Lonnie Whitley; sisters, Rose Jackson (Wayne), Willie Mae Millsap (Prentice), and Bobby Gills (James); sisters-in-law, Jessie Mae Harris and Marilyn Goodrum; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.”
