Rodney Welch elected first Black Alderman in West Monroe

On March 26, 2022, social media timelines were flooded with excitement. History was being made that night. West Monroe (District 3) elected its first black city alderman. Businessman and West Monroe native Rodney Welch swept the polls in a 56% victory. 

This is not Welch’s first time testing the waters of politics. In 2017, he ran for the office of State Representative. Although he did not win, the desire to become a politician never went away.
