The Juneteenth UMOJA hosted a Juneteenth Unity Parade on Saturday, June 21. The parade started at Wossman High School and ended at Charles Johnson Children’s Park. We want to thank the record number of units that participated. Additionally, numerous events were held throughout our region to celebrate this Federal Holiday on June 19 and for the entire month—the organizers deserve applause as well.
During the parade, our theme was, “Honoring our past, Building our future, Rooted in love, and United in Action.” We applaud Monroe City Marshal Robert Cherry and Monroe resident Emma West for their longtime support for this 20th anniversary. Although the temperature was humid, there were many smiles seen along the route. We had an event of food and fun enjoyed by all.
I want to personally thank all supporters for their dedication not only this year but over many years. This effort wouldn’t have been possible without their support of this worthy cause. I also want to remind citizens that we have a lot of work ahead to improve our community, and we are counting on your help. After all, we want to continue to Love where we Live and Live where we Love.
