Our City, Our Community

What is Leadership?  HOGAN, which is an international authority on the subject– specifically in the relationship between leadership, personality, and job performance, describes Leadership as being not just a title but an ability to inspire followership.  In our society, we have effective and ineffective leadership.

On the secular scene, there have been several effective leaders we have grown up admiring including but not limited to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., former President Barack Obama and trailblazers like Harriet Tubman and Thurgood Marshall just to name a few. Each of them formed teams, organizations or other affiliations to achieve goals.  We, in particular as African Americans, stand on their shoulders because of the commitment and dedication they made in making the quality of life better for present and future generations to come.

Some ineffective leaders, which include politicians and others, have set society back because of agendas that were not in the best interest of people.  This unfortunately has been done on a federal, state and local level. All humans make mistakes, however; has enough information and data been made available to lead in an effective way?  Some politicians are elected to office because of popularity.

Once elected, some have failed miserably because of their inability to understand their constituents’ needs and how to go about making a difference on their behalf. We applaud effective leadership both past and present for their hard work and determination.  Because of that, we are enjoying so many blessings and can Love where we Live and Live where we Love.
