Our City – Our Community

By Marie Brown

Things are falling apart at Monroe City Hall.  The Man  in the Hat (Friday Ellis) has been consumed with negatives during his second term.  In addition to having serious challenges in attempting to complete his administrative department head team, violent crime has continued to rise.  The latest 3 homicides including a 2 yr.old in Monroe is devastating.  Although I’m not blaming the Man in the Hat, it is happening under his watch.  Also, the community wants answers to the debacle at the Monroe Civic Center concerning the hockey team. It has been reported that a high ranking official has left the team and has been replaced.  However, it has been alleged that  an excessive amount of money is missing and there seems to be no investigation ongoing. Why has the Civic Center been turned over to the hockey team which includes the city employees for the first time in history who are not involved in the ticket box office during their games?  This is unprecedented!

The Man in the Hat (Ellis) is saying publicly he is fed up and tired of the crime and all the negatives surrounding our city and his administration.  By the way, a recall has been launched against him by members in the city.  3 key high ranking staff members have left  the city, D J Fortenberry, Kelsea McCrary and Emily Stogner.  What’s the deal?

The Man in the Hat has unlimited marketing resources including the local mainstream media to always show him in a positive light.  A handful of North Monroe supporters are raking in millions as a result of the Man in the Hat.  Cities around us including Sterlington, West Monroe and Ruston are all showing a tremendous amount of economic growth and development.  Why aren’t we experiencing this in Monroe?  Strong leadership is needed in our City and it appears that the job is not getting done .When the tide turns, We can Love where we Live and Live where we Love!
