One of the most popular terms used by a variety of people is “We need unity in our community.” I am guilty as well. When people are unified, things happen. Sometimes it’s good—sometimes it’s bad. Many areas, including politics, athletics, business, organizations, and churches, can only excel when there is unity among them.
So what is the problem? I’m glad you asked. We don’t handle disagreements well. I have been in several meetings where issues arose, and often, there is no consensus on how to resolve the matter and move forward. This is not only a local issue but also International and national. Some label me as a troublemaker, but others see me as an advocate and a mouthpiece to address issues. The biggest divider is RACE! The worldly formula for dealing with this has not been discovered. God’s word is eternal.
Our local community is not reaching its full potential because we are not unified. One group of people will not share in wealth, while others live in poverty. One group of people lives in a crime-free area, while others cannot leave home for fear that it will be burglarized when they return. One group of people has territorial markings while others live with no markings, but only a few can afford to enter. What are we doing? The last five letters in the community are UNITY. When we all graduate to work together, we can love where we live and live where we love.
