On Friday, June 5, 2020, Sam Long, Jr. was called home to be with the Lord.
A native of Monroe, Louisiana, Sam Long, Jr. was born on December 16, 1933, the son of the late Sam Long, Sr. and Lila Turner Long. Sam was a graduate of Southern University of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He lived most of his adult life in New Orleans, Louisiana, until 2005, and in the Peachtree City, and Senoia, Georgia surrounding communities. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Peachtree City, Georgia, as well as a former member of the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, of New Orleans,
Louisiana for over 40 years. While an officer in the US Army, he married Camille East in Columbia, South Carolina where they started their lifetime journey together.
Retired Dillard University of New Orleans, Louisiana Controller with a gift of numbers, he dedicated his talent to the sustaining health of fiscal affairs and operations for a host of Historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tulane University Archives, faith-based organizations including The Institute of Church Administration and Management, Conference of National Black Churches, and The Boy Scouts of America.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, James and Elmira East; four sisters Judith Long Joseph, Cara Long De Bose, Sallie Long Welch, and Irma Long; and two brothers, Arthur H. Long, and Ira Long.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Camille E. Long; two children, Diedra Long St. Julien and her husband James and Cedric Elliott Long and his wife Vanessa; his three grandchildren Jessica E. St. Julien, James A. St. Julien, III and Alex M. Long; his sister Ethel Long Belt and brother John Long and, wife Judith; sisters-in-law Beatrice E. Edinburgh, Bobbie E. Seawright, Mildred Long, Silvia Long; brothers-in-law Alvin Edinburgh, James Joseph, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
