Meet and Greet set for Carroll High Principal finalists

Parents and alumni to meet candidates on June 25

Parents, alumni, and supporters of Carroll High School will have a chance to meet the three finalists for the school’s principal position during a community forum on Wednesday, June 25, at 6:00 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Superintendent Rev. Sam Moore, III, announced that this year’s selection process will depart from past traditions. In previous years, input from parents and alumni directly influenced the naming of Carroll’s principal. However, Moore noted that while the community will still have an opportunity to engage with the candidates, the final decision will rest with him.

The three candidates vying for leadership of the historic school are Rev. Don Green, Shirley Neal, and Dr. Cassandra Shelling—all of whom have deep connections to Carroll High.

Rev. Green previously served as principal of Carroll High School from 2003-2008, earning a reputation for effective leadership and community involvement before stepping down to accept a pastoral post in Baton Rouge.

Shirley Neal, currently assistant principal at Neville High School, is no stranger to the Carroll community. She served for many years as a business teacher at Carroll and built strong ties with students and their families during her tenure.

Dr. Shelling is a proud Carroll graduate and currently teaches mathematics at Roy Shelling, Sr. Elementary School. Both she and her daughter previously held the title of “Miss Carroll,” reflecting their longstanding connection to the school. Dr. Shelling is the daughter of school board member Brenda Shelling, who, according to district policy, will be required to resign her position on the board if her daughter is appointed principal.

The forum will provide an opportunity for attendees to submit written questions to the candidates. The forum will be moderated by Robert Johnson of the Carroll Boosters and Roosevelt Wright, Jr., publisher of the Monroe Free Press.

The event is scheduled to run from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and promises to give the Carroll community a meaningful chance to engage with the applicants and hear their visions for the future of the school.
