Mardi Gras is around the corner!

Mardi Gras is coming up! Every year my dad and my mom take me and my brother to the parades. There are many Mardi Gras parades during Carnival Season. My favorite parade is Zulu.

Over a million people are going to come to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Every year the whole city is packed with people from all over America. The traffic is always backed up and sometimes it will be five parades happening at the same time. The good thing for me is that school gets out for Mardi Gras.

My dad says if it is too cold this year we may not go to Zulu because whenever it is cold he says my brother and I do nothing but whine. We can’t help it. Sometimes, our hands are frozen and it is too cold to be trying to catch beads.

Zulu is a very good parade. It is one of the original Mardi Gras Krewes. Zulu was also the first Black Mardi Gras Krewe. Every year they pick a Zulu King and Queen. The Mayor gives King Zulu the key to the city. I don’t know why the key is important. It’s not like a city has doors.

People catch beads. High School bands play too. Last year we went to a parade and my daddy saw his high school’s band from Monroe in a parade all the way in New Orleans. He started screaming saying, “Look that’s Carroll!!” Some of the people knew us and waved at us when they passed by.

I don’t know if it will be cold or not but I am looking forward to getting out of school and eating a lot of King Cake!
