Monroe police have arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian earlier this month.
On August 11, 2025, around 8:48 p.m., officers responded to South 3rd Street and Plum Street after reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. When they arrived, they found a 61-year-old man lying in the roadway with severe injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital, but he later died from his injuries.
Investigators identified the driver as Derrick Richardson, who fled the scene after the crash. On Monday, August 18, Richardson was taken into custody and booked into Ouachita Correctional Center. He faces charges of Hit and Run—death or serious bodily injury, with bond set at $100,000, and Obstruction of Justice, with bond set at $10,000.
Court records show Richardson has a history of run-ins with the law. In 2017, he was stopped on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus for a traffic violation. At the time, he had no valid driver’s license, only an expired ID, and gave officers a false name. He was charged with resisting an officer, no driver’s license, and misrepresentation of identity during booking. Authorities also held him on an outstanding warrant from Richland Parish.
