Scripture to ponder: “…The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He has risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the son of man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day…” (Luke 24:5–7 NLT).
Grace and Peace to You, Dear Hearts!
God bless you during this time of Jesus’ corporate Resurrection commemoration. This remembrance should be celebrated every day of our lives, especially on Sunday morning during our worship time with God. Some people may not believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ, His death, burial and resurrection, should be preached or heralded after God’s message on Sunday morning. However, if we completely understand what Jesus did for us, we will know that His message is His sacrifice and resurrection, the only way lives are transformed. As Rev. Roosevelt Wright penned, “A sermon that doesn’t go to the cross is just a speech.” Jesus is the only way to the Father, and to believe in Him and what He did for us is essential for eternal life.
In our above-noted Text, the Bible declared that some women were looking for Jesus at the tomb to prepare His body for burial with spices and perfumes after the terrible Calvary experience where they crucified our Lord. They came expecting to find Him there, but an angel asked a significant question we must ponder: “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?” The angel stated, “He isn’t here!” The Text suggests three things when we look for Jesus among the dead. Looking for Him in places and people who are dead, meaning places not of God and people who live dark and uncontrite lives.
The text suggests that when we look for Jesus in places and people who are dead, first, we must understand that He is not there. Verse 6 declares, “He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead!” Therefore, do not look for Jesus in dead places or among dead people. Secondly, we must remember what He told us. Verse 7 reminds us, “Remember what He told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified…” And Thirdly, He kept His word, because early Sunday morning He rose just as He said, “and that he would rise again on the third day....” This question still speaks to us today. Often, we look for the things of Jesus in the wrong people and places, which cannot offer the transformative power that Jesus does. Therefore, let us not be guilty of looking among the dead for Jesus, who is alive. Believe in Jesus and His Resurrection power and be saved.
Jesus Saves!
