Listen to us!

The Special Crime Session is over, and we are back in Ouachita Parish. The majority Legislature Chambers passed bills that will impact our community, our teens, our young adults, and our constituents in several ways.

For example, SB3 passed. This bill means that a 17-year-old who commits a non-violent crime or violent crime, will be tried as an adult. If they are sentenced to jail, they will go to an adult prison facility. There are bills that will eliminate patrol and probation and Good Time. There are bills that cause one to stay in jail longer and bills that will keep you in jail longer.

Listen to us parents! We need the parents to attend these meetings. It is a must that you attend these meeting. Your children must understand the consequences of bad decision making. For those who need help with your children, the community, the village will help you. Yes, it will take everyone helping to prevent our teens and young adults from going to jail and/or prison. We will work together to implement preventive methods to stop the crime. Elected officials will work to educate our babies from birth to four years old, provide afterschool programs, improve poverty, and get to the root cause of crime.

So, what is the plan. LISTEN TO Us. Starting this week, we will be meeting with pastors and church leaders, elected officials, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and our constituents to inform and educate you on the new laws and what they mean. We will notify you of the dates and times on Facebook, radio stations, and newspapers. If you have any questions, please call our offices.
