Letter: Don’t compare Trump’s case to Quillen

Dear Editor,

No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth- Plato.

These are my personal comments referring to a couple of articles written in the August 19, 2023, edition of the Free Press: Carroll Coach was sentenced to 45 days in jail, and Trump’s indictments help others see what minorities have seen all along.

It is a fact; Trump’s indictments help others see what minorities have seen all along. However, let’s not fall for the okey dokey. That is, we are in the strange position of supporting Trump’s right to be free of political intimidation. All the conversation about the DOJ being weaponized is mainly because several black District Attorneys (Fani Willis, Alvin Bragg, and T. James), indicted Donald John Trump, a privileged class. Let’s not forget Judge Chutkan. These DAs and Judges are finally holding Trump and his accomplices accountable and should be commended and praised; instead of being attacked and marginalized. For some, it is unsettling for Blacks to be able to hold whites accountable for their crimes. Thus, all the vitriol comments from MAGA, who seem to have lost their minds.

Reluctantly, and as a result of the J-6 Committee, the DOJ began investigating Trump and his minions. Being made aware of the investigation in Georgia and the federal investigation was about to commence; Trump filed early to run for President. No doubt his plan was if indicted, to claim political interference. In the 2016 race, when Trump was running against Hillary Clinton, he made the statement, “If Hillary is indicted, she should drop out of the race.” What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander. Trump’s problems were predictable and were expected when a Mob Boss and Cult leader was elected as President.

Finally, comparing Trump’s situation to Coach Quillen’s is in no way similar. In my opinion, the only explanation for Judge Clay Hamilton’s action, is that he is a corrupt, unethical bigot. Trump and his minions’ crimes are not a witch-hunt, but more like a rattlesnake roundup. And for the most part, the Republican Party has been in Criminal Coverup Mode. Trump and his enablers tried to overthrow democracy by not counting the votes of black people and filing fake electors. His crimes are far-reaching. Expect more indictments of unindicted co-conspirators. Trump and his accomplices should be in jail, without bail. It is just the reverse for Coach Quillen. Comparing Coach Quillen to Trump is worse than comparing apples to oranges. It’s more like comparing apples to orangutans. The comparison is a post hoc fallacy.
