Scripture: Now the birth of Jesus was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privly. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins…Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not til she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus (Matthew 1:18-25).
Dear Hearts,
Were you excited when your children were born? Did you prepare to receive the newborn baby with much enthusiasm? In addition, did you decorate the nursery, receive gifts from family members and friends as well as prepare for the coming of the baby in a manner that caused others, who are in your immediate circle, to be equally excited?
Excitingly, now is the season to celebrate Jesus-the Baby Boy who was born to save His people, us, from our sins. All men, women, boys and girls have the opportunity to claim Jesus as their Baby Boy. Furthermore, all ethnic groups-Jews, African Americans, Caucasians, Hispanics, Chinese, Japanese, etc. may claim Jesus as their Baby Boy, if they believe. Regardless of our ethnic differences and dissimilarities, we can share this Baby Boy as our Savior. As a reminder, the real reason for Christmas is the fact that our Baby Boy was born to bring us peace, joy, love and ultimately eternal life for those who believe.
In the aforementioned text, Joseph was not excited to hear about the conception of the Baby that Mary had conceived, because he really did not understand how his espoused wife could conceive a baby without him. Particularly, he was willing to put her away privately (Matthew 1:19b). Of course, the angel of the Lord appeared to him and shared, “That which is conceived in her is the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 1:20b).
We are known to be excited about babies born in our families. In like manner, we must share our excitement about the Baby that God gave us. Jesus-the world’s Baby Boy. Earthly gifts are nice. But Jesus, God’s Gift, is best!
