Happy Father’s Day

By Rusty Potter

Congratulations to all the men out there who are working hard to be good fathers, whether you are a stepfather or a biological father, or a spiritual father. Fathers have a call to serve. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subjects and verbs agree to serve… You only need a heart full of grace, and a soul generated by love.” A good dad has a soul generated by love.

As a father, we should try to live by example rather than just talking about a situation. It is important for your child to be able to examine your life rather than just hearing what they should do. One of the greatest gifts a father can give to his children is to believe in them. My dad (Earnest Potter) would always tell me that I was smart, even when I bought home bad grades. When you laugh with your children, the love grows and the door is open for better communication.

Every father should remember when you teach your children, you also teach your children’s children.

Happy Father’s Day.
